The building is gone, but what will take its place remains a mystery.
Saint Catherine’s Chapel was torn down over the weekend by the property’s new owners, who own several other locations in Manomet. So far, besides the permit to take it down, no other plans have been filed at Town Hall.
According to records from the Registry of Deeds, the site was purchased from the Roman Catholic Archdiocese in June by Michael Lack and Gregory Cogan for $379,000. The pair, according to town records, own property on Abington Avenue, Manomet Avenue and Taylor Avenue. The money will help pay for the new church being built for Saint Bonaventure.
The two-acre site is zoned for single-family homes on half-acre lots, but according to zoning department staff, the land may be grandfathered for a single home.
A call to Lack’s office has not been returned.
